The wooden sticks used by early Native Americans are still being made (and used) today!  In upstate New York, on the Onondaga Nation (near Syracuse) stickmaker Alf Jacques still makes wooden lacrosse sticks by hand using the same process that has been used for hundreds of years. Here is a short documentary on Alf Jacques and his stick-making.
